ZFH1500 Frequently Asked Questions

Elzetta Black ZFH1500 with Thumb Screw installed on AR-15 rifle.

Q: Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 remain solid when the gun barrel gets hot?

A: Yes, tens of thousands of units in service and extensive testing have proven that the Elzetta ZFH1500 will withstand extreme abuse and hot barrel temperatures.

Q: What flashlights will work with Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount?

A: Every Elzetta ZFH1500 comes with Sizing Adapters, giving the Flashlight Holder the ability to mount flashlights from 0.7 to 1.1 inches in diameter (18 to 27 mm). This includes flashlights from popular manufacturers such as InForce®, Streamlight®, Pelican®, Laser Devices®, SureFire®, and of course, Elzetta Flashlights. (Sizing Adapters are not required when using an Elzetta Flashlight or other 1-inch Light.)

Q: What advantage does the Quick-Release Thumb Screw offer?

A: The Quick-Release Thumb Screw allows flashlights to be installed and removed rapidly and without tools. It also provides a more robust clamping mechanism while retaining the nut on the device. The Thumb Screw Model is highly recommended.

Q: Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount fit rifles equipped with a bayonet lug?

A: Yes, the ZFH1500 is designed to fit around the standard bayonet lug found on AR15, M4, and M16 rifles. It will also fit post-ban front sight bases without a bayonet lug.

Q: Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount work with a side-mounted front sling swivel?

A: An M4-style front sight base (FSB) mounted sling swivel, such as found on Colt 6920 carbine, must be removed to attach an Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount. For those wanting a side-mounted FSB sling swivel with the Elzetta ZFH1500, the ZSS1500 QD Side Sling Kit provides a quick-detach heavy duty sling swivel that may be attached to either side of the Elzetta ZFH1500.

Q: From what material is the ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount made?

A: The Elzetta ZFH1500 is made from an advanced glass-filled polymer.

Q: What are the advantages of this material?

A: This glass-filled polymer provides outstanding durability, impact resistance, scratch resistance and light weight. It also withstands high temperatures, vibration, and most chemicals.

Q: How much does the Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount weigh?

A: The ZFH1500 with hardware weighs only 2.8 oz (79 g).

Q: Is there a way to mount an additional accessory to the ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount?

A: Yes. While no rails are required to attach the Elzetta ZFH1500 to the weapon, with the Elzetta ZPR1500 kit, other rail-mounted accessories (such as sub-compact lasers) may be attached to the side of the Flashlight Mount. (Elzetta ZPR1500 sold separately.)

Q: Will attaching a sling on the front sling swivel interfere with the use of the ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount?

A: No, Elzetta designed the ZFH1500 to work in various configurations. When the flashlight is mounted rearward (with the tailcap exposed), the sling swivel (with or without a sling attached) will activate the push-button switch of the flashlight. When the flashlight is mounted with the tailcap recessed into the ZFH1500 body, the push-button switch is protected from the sling swivel while the tailcap of the flashlight is still accessible through the skeleton hole in the ZFH1500 body.

Q: Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount work with the Magpul MOE Handguard?

A: Yes, the Elzetta ZFH1500 fits perfectly with the standard Magpul MOE Handguards. It does not fit SL models.

Q: Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount work with the Magpul AVG and AVG2 Angled Vertical Grips?

A: Yes, the Elzetta ZFH1500 works exceptionally well with the Magpul AVG and AVG2, providing ambidextrous operation without sacrificing recoil management.

Q: Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount work with my barrel?

A: Yes, the ZFH1500 will work on any AR15, M4, or M16 with a standard A2 front sight base (FSB) regardless of barrel diameter or profile. This includes M4, government, pencil, lightweight, and heavy barrel (HBAR) profiles.

Q: Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 fit a Ruger AR556?

A: No, the Ruger AR556 does not have a standard A2 front sight base and is therefore not compatible.

Q: Will my AR15 fit in its storage case and vehicle rack when fitted with an Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount?

A: Yes, the ZFH1500’s center line mounting position preserves the slim profile of the AR15 rifle, allowing storage in most gun cases and vehicle racks

Q: Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount fit an Airsoft gun?

A: Yes, the ZFH1500 is a flashlight holder that will fit many Airsoft AR15/M4 replica rifles. Some may require minor modification as the replica front sight base (FSB) may not be exactly to spec.

Q: Where is the Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount made?

A: All Elzetta products, including the ZFH1500, are designed, engineered, and manufactured in Kentucky, USA, using American materials, tooling, and labor.

Q:  Will the ZSM or ZFH1500 mount to the firearm barrel only?

A:  No, this will not work as the mount will not be locked in position properly and will continuously spin.

Q: Will the ZFH1500 for AR 15 work with light model X, Y, or Z?

A: It is intended for cylindrical lights only with a 1-inch diameter body and tailcap.  If the tailcap is larger than this or if there is an obstruction on the body itself such as mounting lugs it will not fit or work properly.

Q: Does the ZFH1500 work with model X, Y, or Z AR15?

A: It MUST have a standard front sight post casting (a.k.a. A-Post).  It will not work with Ruger 556 as this is a non-standard casting.

Q:  Does the ZF1500 have clearance for a bayonet lug?

A:  Yes, it does!

Q: When installing an Elzetta Tactical LED Flashlight in an Elzetta Flashlight Mount (ZFH1500 or ZSM) are the Sizing Adapters needed?

A: No, with its 1-inch body, Elzetta Flashlights fit all Elzetta Flashlight Mounts without the Sizing Adapters. (Sizing Adapters are to accommodate flashlights with diameters less than 0.97 inches.)

A: The ZSM will universally fit 870/500 firearms with same dimensions.  Exceptions to this are Benelli SuperNova, M3, 590A1 (heavy barrel), and 930 SPX.  These are dimensionally different.  The firearm must have 1.75” of free mounting space on the barrel and magazine tube in front of the action for mounting the ZSM. In addition, the gap between the magazine tube and barrel must be 0.235″ (just under 1/4″) for 12 Gauge. If that is the case, then the ZSM will fit.

Q:  I have a Nordic magazine tube extension.  Will the ZSM fit this configuration?

A:  No, the Nordic magazine tube is larger than 1 inch in diameter and will NOT work with the ZSM.

Q:  Will the ZSM fit the Mossberg Shockwave and/or the Remington TAC-14?

A:  No, neither firearm has the required 1.75” mounting space available.

Q:  Will the ZSM or ZFH1500 mount to the firearm barrel only?

A:  No, this will not work as the mount will not be locked in position properly and will continuously spin.

Q: Do you recommend any torque specs for tightening the screws on the ZSM shotgun light mount?

A: Yes, we recommend 10-inch pounds for the smaller screws with the addition of Loctite 222. The larger two screws should be 20-inch pounds and there is no Loctite required for these.  Please see our downloads section for ZSM instructions (Must be logged in to access).
